Art In Place sculptures aim to spread arts awareness by providing the community with a wide range of artistic styles, themes, and media. The best proposals will be unique, engaging, and special consideration will be given to submissions promoting Charlottesville's "A Green City" initiative.
The invitation is open to artists working independently or in a collaborative group. Interested sculptors are encouraged to submit the following by July 1, 2016.
1) A professional resume with examples of past monumental work
2) All contact information including phone, address, email, and website
3) Photos of available work, in the form of baseline jpg files with 72 dpi and an overall dimension of 1920x1920
4) Footing requirements and method of installation for proposed work
5) Brief artist statement
Photos must be clearly labeled with the artist's name, the title of the work, and its medium and dimensions.
Please do not mail materials such as brochures or CDs. All applications must be received through the embedded form below.
A two-jury process will be conducted throughout the month of July to select 10 finalists. All artists will be notified of a final decision by mid-August, and the selected sculptures will be installed in October 2016, to remain on display until September 2017.
Deadline for entries: July 1, 2016
Finalists notified: August 15, 2016
Sculpture installed: October 2016
Sculpture removed: September 2017
At the discretion of the jury and pending final approval by the City, ten locations will be selected from a list of potential sites. The jury will strive to provide the most suitable location available for the selected sculptures. After the sites have been assigned, the artist may coordinate with the Construction Chair on the exact placement of the artwork within the site.
