played with this theme of the whirling birds several times now.
I love the sense of making something beautiful and simple, staying
outside the fray of squabbles about art versus ornament, high culture
versus low, or serious versus any of its opposites. They are a wonder
that almost anybody from any walk of life can enjoy and respond
to with uncomplicated appreciation. That's the state of mind I enter
into when I'm periodically drawn back to this theme.
The birds are drawn purely
from my own internal image of an idealized avian form. I'm also
concerned to maximize the wind catching ability of the shape, so
I make no claim to be representing any particular species. If, however,
doves come to mind, and if the notions of peace and serenity become
prominent for even fleeting moments in these troubled times-that
would be fine.
