The Shooting Star

Value: $18,000

Artist Statement

The sculpture is composed of two long cut shapes slotted together, with two wings attached. Its planes make a crystal structure while the filigree drawing describes waves of light. This piece has grown out of work in the studio involving the linear patterns of the body and the similar structures of the natural landscape, so the veiny reference may recall hands in flight. It is also a meditation on the sculpture as monument, in this case of a fleeting moment, a small natural phenomena brought to enhanced scale. The reflected light and shadow created by the cutwork give a fragility and effervescence to an otherwise industrial material. A shooting star can bring fear or hope - it always reminds us of our place in time.
